Ethiopia's gifts to humanity
Ethiopia has contributed quite a great number of economically and aesthetically valuable plants to the world. With respect to edible plants, for example, a variety of barley (gebs) which is resistant to yellow barley disease and which is now quite widely used in the European and American bread industry was originally obtained from Ethiopia. From this variety alone, farmers in the United States obtain about 150 million dollars per year. See more on the Neglected Treasure: An Overview of Ethiopia's Vegetation.
